Cause Marketing
Doing good is good business! Make your employees and members
feel that they are part of a larger effort through Children's
Miracle Network. Drive business to your credit union through
unique turnkey product offerings, all with a built-in charitable
donation to your Children's Miracle Network hospital.
The following techniques have proven some of the most popular
and most successful. Don’t be afraid to get creative and
try your own, too!
Cross-Promotional Membership Contest
Offer to donate $5 or more to your Children's Miracle
Network hospital in the name of your credit union or new member.
Donate the money every time a new member opens an account at
your credit union. Promote this event along with a membership
drive during a specified period of time or make it standard
policy to donate with every new member. Watch your membership
soar!
Skip-A-Payment Promotion
Members are given the opportunity to skip a payment on a credit
card or credit union loan during a designated period of time.
This works especially well during the holiday season when cash
is tight. Members are charged a fee, usually from $5 to $10.
For the fee they get to skip that month’s payment. The
credit union benefits as well from increased interest charges.
Steps to success:
- Determine designated month or time frame
- Determine accounts that will qualify for an extension
- Determine amount and payment of fee (electronic transfer
or check)
- Determine when fee is due
- Draft a letter including a fee to be mailed to members
- Mail thank you letter to participating members
Loan Buy-Down
Charge members a contribution to buy down loan rates. Credit
unions that have been successful charge $25 for ¼% and
$50 for ½%. Market and communicate this promotion to
your members as in the Skip-A-Payment promotion.
Statement Stuffers
Include a donation form in your members’ statements or,
to save on expenses, offer the instructions for your members
to donate funds electronically from their account. Make sure
your campaign is during a designated time period and the donation
is as turnkey as possible for your members.
Discount Coupon Book Promotion
Many credit unions raise significant funds through selling
passbooks or coupon books. Typically, these are Entertainment
brand coupon books, but any will suffice as long as the offerings
target the needs and lifestyles of your members. Profits typically
range from $6-$8 and go to your Children's Miracle Network
hospital.
ATM/Debit Promotion
Does your credit union aim to increase transaction volume?
Market your ATM as a “no surcharge machine” that
makes a local impact. Set aside ¾ of a penny (for example)
per transaction for your Children's Miracle Network hospital.
Always communicate the effort your credit union is exhibiting
to support your local hospital. Members have the opportunity
to save both money and children’s lives!
Credit Card Promotion
Your credit union can market your credit card as a low rate,
low/no fee card that benefits your Children's Miracle
Network hospital. Set aside a percent of each transaction as
a contribution. You can also use the Children's Miracle Network
logo on your plastics!
