What is Credit Unions for Kids?

Credit Unions for Kids is a collaboration of credit unions, chapters, leagues, and business partners engaged in fund raising activities to benefit 170 Children's Miracle Network affiliated children's hospitals serving 14 million kids, while gaining numerous benefits for credit unions.

The credit union philosophy of "people helping people" goes hand in glove with the mission of Children's Miracle Network. Credit unions care for their communities and Credit Unions for Kids demonstrates this care.

What is Children's Miracle Network?

Children's Miracle Network is an international nonprofit organizations whose mission is to generate funds and awareness programs to benefit children and 170 affiliated hospitals for children in the United States and Canada. CMN's hallmark is that 100 percent of locally-generated donations stay in the community in which they were made to benefit participating hospitals.

CMN affiliated hospitals are all not-for-profit and treat children with all types of afflictions including cancer, accidents, muscle and heart diseases, AIDS, cystic fibrosis, and trauma. They pride themselves on treating the whole child and render service based on need, not a family's ability to pay.

Since its founding in 1983, CMN has helped raise more than $1 billion for its affiliated hospitals for children--$239 million in 2000 alone. CMN's fund raising efforts climax each year with a television special called Children's Miracle Celebration, broadcast live from Walt Disney World in Orlando.

Credit unions are nonprofit, member-owned financial cooperatives. Focused on delivering service to people credit unions provide consumers with an affordable alternative to mainstream, for-profit financial institutions. A Step Back In Time

Credit Unions for Kids started in the mid-80's in Iowa, Oregon/SW Washington, and Texas. San Antonio, Texas is the birthplace of this wonderful campaign to help hospitals help kids.
