Britney Spears may be her favorite singer, but Kayla Allain is the real superstar. This determined 8-year-old from New Orleans, La., is a talented artist who loves to paint and draw, a budding musician who sings and plays the piano, and a stellar student who reads two grade levels above her own and has the best penmanship in her class. But Kayla’s accomplishments aren’t the only things that set her apart. It’s the challenges she has overcome to get there, too. Kayla was born without arms, so she uses her feet to help her excel in school, music, art, and life. She was also born with congenital dysplastic kidneys, which threatened to take her life. The condition was diagnosed when Kayla was 2, but didn’t become critical until she was 6, when end-stage renal failure made a kidney transplant a necessity. Thankfully Kayla’s mom was a donor match, and the transplant was a success. One thing is certain-if Kayla ever comes face-to-face with Britney Spears, Kayla isn’t the one who should be asking for an autograph.
