Log A Load For Kids was started by the South Carolina Forestry Association in 1988. The American Pulpwood Association became the Log A Load For Kids national sponsor in 1993. The basic concept is for loggers and wood-supplying businesses in various states to donate the value of a load of logs to their Children's Miracle Network hospital. Many other special events sponsored by companies in the logging, forestry industry and other logging supported organizations also generate significant funds. The program has raised over $28 million in the last 15 years. Twenty-six states participated in the program in 2008. These states include, Arizona, Alabama, Alaska, Arkansas, California, Florida, Georgia, Idaho, Indiana, Kentucky, Louisiana, Maine, Maryland, Michigan, Minnesota, Mississippi, Missouri, Montana, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Ohio, Oklahoma, Oregon, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Virginia, Washington, West Virginia, and Wisconsin. Log A Load for Kids is now working in Canada.
