Rice University: Finding Creative Solutions

CMN Directors have the great responsibility to work as liaisons between the hospital and the local colleges and universities to oversee successful Dance Marathons.   Above and beyond the fund-raising dollars lies the greater picture of seeing how the students and faculty unite and create a sense of togetherness for a great cause. Yemike Hatfield, CMN director for Memorial Hermann Children’s Hospital in Houston, gives the credit of their success to the dance marathon committee at Rice University. She admires the students who give their time and commitment among their many obligations of student life.

Among the many benefits that Memorial Hermann Children’s Hospital receives from having the school host the event is the strong relationship that is built within the community between the hospital and the students.   The hospital has devised a wish list of hospital equipment and literally 100% of what is generated through the Dance Marathon can go to those supplies, along with fulfilling the needs of the children.

Every CMN Director will find they have different challenges within their market. Finding creative solutions will bring the tools to achieve a successful dance marathon program.   Because Rice University doesn’t have sororities or fraternities, Yemike is finding ways to publicize and network on other campuses. She is networking with PHI MU Sorority to build awareness at the University of Houston. Yemike has some great things in the works with mass E-fliers and face-to-face communication with professors. Keep up the great work, Yemike, and thanks for your support of the Children’s Miracle Network Dance Marathon program.

"It is easy to do things for our own families and loved ones, but to give of our substance for the stranger who is in need is the real test of our charity and our love for our fellowmen."
